Climate

Climate : Taiwan being a small country has a variety of weather during the year. Since it is between the largest continent [Asia], the largest ocean [Pacific] and also has the tropic of cancer running right in the middle of the island it has two main climate systems. The first climate system is a tropical monsoon climate in the south and a subtropical monsoon climate in the north. They sound really close but a tropical climate has high temperatures and high humidity while subtropical climate has high temperatures but low humidity.

The latitude and topography, ocean currents and monsoons are the main contributing factors. According to Koppen's climate classification, the four climate types in Taiwan are a Monsoon and Trade-Wind Coastal Climate in the south, Mild, Humid Climate in the north, Wet-Dry Tropical Climate in the west, and the Temperate Rainy Climate with Dry Winter in mountain areas. Comparing both the charts both of the cities have relatively close average and also high temperatures but Taiwan gets a lot more precipitation than Kaohsiung.

Taiwan's annual temperature is a lot hotter than Denver's. Denver's annual temperature is 14˚C while Taiwan's annual temperature is 22˚C. Taiwan has a very small seasonality being that it is on the tropic of cancer making it having high temperatures, while Denver has a large seasonality since Colorado gets all four seasons.

  1. I observed something pretty interesting while looking at the graph of your countries precipitation compared to the precipitation in Denver. I noticed the month with the most precipitation in Denver, still experiences less rain than the month with the least amount of rain in Taiwan.
