Size - Taiwan is not a very big country and compared to the U.S. being 8,080,464 sq km Taiwan has a total area of 35,980 sq km, which means you can fit almost 225 Taiwan's into the U.S.!
Terrain - From the map above you can see that Taiwan is about 60% covered by mountains and the rest are plains which is where almost 90% of the population is living. There are 5 mountain ranges in Taiwan and they are the Alishan range, Central Mountain range, Haian range, Xueshan range and the Yushan range. Within the Yushan range, Taiwan has one of the highest points over 2,000 meters called Jade mountain (Fig. 2) standing at 3952 m (12,966 ft) which makes Taiwan one of the world's highest islands! A notable river that is in Taiwan is the Kaoping river which is 171 km long. (Fig. 3) This river is one of the most overused watershed (A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place (Source: What is a watershed?)) in Taiwan and also it is very polluted because so many people use it.
